Ruffalo Enters Hulk Anger Management Program

Mark Ruffalo says he's ready to give the Hulk a rest at a nice spa resort until 2015 - when he can be angry again in the Avengers sequel.
Mark Ruffalo says he’s ready to give the Hulk a rest at a nice spa resort until 2015 – when he can be angry again in the Avengers sequel.
You may have been asking yourself – “Self, when am I going to see The Incredible Hulk in a movie again? Mark Ruffalo signed that big six-pic deal with Marvel last year, so it must be soon, right?” Well, not if Ruffalo’s Twitter has anything to say about it. Ruffalo, who played the big green angry dude in last year’s blockbuster “Avengers” movie has tweeted that the next time he plays the Hulk it will be in 2015 when the Avengers sequel is due to arrive in theaters. Although there had been rampant rumor-mongering about a possible “Planet Hulk” or “World War Hulk” movie concept, both Ruffalo and Avengers director Joss Whedon agreed that a film based entirely on the angry green alter-ego of normal everyday guy Bruce Banner would not likely work out for audiences as even fanboys would tire of 90 nonstop minutes of raging on-screen destruction without some down time at a spa.
“The Avengers 2” is currently scheduled for a May 1, 2015 release.

COMIC-CON 2013: The Avengers 2 Officially Titled The Avengers: Age of Ultron!

The Avengers 2 title revealed: The Avengers: Age of Ultron
The Avengers 2 title revealed: "The Avengers: Age of Ultron"
The Marvel Studios panel just let out minutes ago, where the studio showcased its upcoming Marvel Phase Two sequels Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, at the end of the panel, Marvel's The Avengers director Joss Whedon hit the stage, revealing that The Avengers 2 title is The Avengers: Age of Ultron!

In the Marvel comic books, Ultron is considered to be one of the greatest creations of scientist Henry Pym, a.k.a Ant-Man. The sentient robot is dedicated to eradicating the human race once and for all. The robot's violent tendencies are said to spring from both Pym's intellect and mental instability.

Of course, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the last movie in Marvel's Phase Two, will lead perfectly into the first Phase Three movie, Ant-Man, directed by Edgar Wright and slated for release on November 6, 2015, just six months after The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015.

Joss Whedon is directing from his own screenplay, which has already been confirmed to include superhero siblings Quicksilver, a role which Aaron Taylor-Johnson is believed to have landed, and Scarlet Witch. Thanos, who appeared at the very end of Marvel's The Avengers, was thought to be the villain in this sequel, but that doesn't seem to be the case now.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

We'll keep you posted with any further news regarding The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron as soon as more information is released. The Avengers: Age of Ultron comes to theaters May 1st, 2015 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Mark Ruffalo. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About ‘The Simpsons’

The Simpsons fox bart homer lisa maggie marge matt groening
Fox
After 23 seasons of laughs, it’s hard to imagine a world where ‘The Simpsons’ aren’t on television. In addition to being the longest-running scripted series in TV history, ‘Simpsons’ quotes and references have become part of our daily vernacular. And yet, the show’s storied history and the behind-the-scenes tales of how the characters came to life have been barely noticed in the large shadow its iconic characters have cast on the world.
‘The Simpsons’ hasn’t just created a media and merchandising empire that has brought the world 500 TV episodes, a movie, countless toys and even a theme park ride. It has also launched the careers of some of the biggest names in comedy (Conan O’Brien, we’ll always bow to you for the monorail episode) and turned its creator Matt Groening into a mainstream counterculture hero. So as the show reaches into its landmark 500th episode, it’s worth noting some of the more interesting facts and figures behind Springfield’s most famous residents.

1. Matt Groening got his big break when his comic strip was given as a gift

Long before Groening became a giant in television, he made his living with the alternative newspaper comic strip 'Life in Hell,' a funny, bleak look at the world through the eyes of a depressed rabbit named Bongo. Groening's artwork caught the eye of Polly Platt, a production designer who worked on the Oscar-winning film 'Terms of Endearment' with 'Simpsons' co-creator James L. Brooks. According to the book 'The Simpsons: An Uncensored, Unauthorized History' by John Ortved, she wanted to thank Brooks for getting her an Oscar nomination and bought the original copy of one of Groening's 'Life in Hell' comic strips titled "The Los Angeles Way of Death" as a thank you gift. Ken Estin, a producer who worked with Brooks on 'Taxi,' also received a "Life in Hell" comic strip as a birthday gift during a retreat to brainstorm ideas for what would become the Fox sketch comedy series 'The Tracey Ullman Show.' The strips became the topic of conversation during the retreat and the decision was ultimately made to bring Groening on board to do short cartoons for the short-lived sketch series.

2. The Simpsons are based on Matt Groening's family

Groening was initially asked to make 'Life in Hell' cartoons for 'The Tracey Ullman Show,' but decided at the last minute that he didn't want to lose the merchandising rights to his offbeat comic strip. Instead, Groening dreamed up an idea on the fly moments before meeting James L. Brooks that involved a family very much like his own. (His dad's name is actually Homer, his mother Margaret and his younger sisters are named Lisa and Maggie.) So where did Bart come from? It's an anagram for "brat." (Groening has said the character is loosely based on himself and his brother Mark.) Fun fact: Groening's mom's maiden name is Wiggum.

3. Fox wanted to kill the early 'Simpsons' cartoons

While the ratings for 'The Tracey Ullman Show' weren't exactly gangbusters, 'The Simpsons' shorts were a huge hit with viewers. But that didn't stop Fox from wanting to scrap them. The cartoons cost around $15,000 each to produce and test audiences gave them low ratings. Thankfully, Brooks saw some deep potential in the cartoon family and when the network canceled 'Ullman,' he pushed for 'The Simpsons' to become a series of its own. So in essence, 'The Simpsons' is the most successful spin-off of all time.

4. Former First Lady Barbara Bush once got a personal letter from Marge Simpson

In 1989, Brooks, Groening and writer/producer Sam Simon managed to convince Fox to turn 'The Simpsons' into a series, starting with the Christmas special 'Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire.' The single episode netted Fox's biggest audience for a show at that time and turned the bizarre-looking family into a cultural touchstone. The show also attracted its fair share of controversy and criticism from parents who thought The Simpsons were a bad influence on children. Former First Lady Barbara Bush remarked to People Magazine in 1990 that she had seen the show and thought it "was the dumbest thing I had ever seen." Soon after the interview hit the stands, the White House received a personalized letter from Marge Simpson addressed to the First Lady. Marge admitted her family wasn't perfect but she told Mrs. Bush that she still tried to instill humility in her children and "believed in my heart that we have a great deal in common. Each of us [is] living our lives to serve an exceptional man." The letter so moved Mrs. Bush that she wrote a response apologizing for her remarks and complementing Marge for "setting a good example for the rest of the country."

5. Homer has the most downloaded GPS voice in the world

Homer Simpson has a distinctive voice, a mix of Walter Matthau and voice actor Dan Castellaneta's own father. TomTom hired Castellaneta in 2009 to record directions for a Homer voice that customers could download for their GPS devices along with other TV icons like SpongeBob SquarePants, Bert and Ernie from 'Sesame Street' and KITT from 'Knight Rider.' The Homer voice has become the most downloaded SAT NAV voice in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. It has been downloaded for TomToms 128,500 times in the U.S. alone, which accounts for more than 40% of GPS devices in the world. The sales of the Homer voice was so successful that TomTom recently hired co-stars Julie Kavner to record a Marge Simpson GPS voice and Harry Shearer to record a Mr. Burns voice.

6. Lisa correctly predicted three Super Bowl wins in one episode

The season three episode 'Lisa the Greek,' one of the sweeter moments between the oafish Homer and the brainy Lisa, featured the pair spending quality time by betting on NFL football games thanks to Lisa's never-fail system for picking a winner. The episode was timed to air just before Super Bowl XXVI between the Washington Redskins and the Buffalo Bills. Lisa realizes that Homer only wanted to hang out with her so he could bet on the winner. So the hurt Lisa predicts that Washington will win, but if she subconsciously doesn't love him and wants him to lose, Buffalo will win. According to the DVD commentary, the cast rerecorded the lines to coincide with the next two Super Bowls with the episode airing before each game. Showrunner Al Jean said Lisa not only correctly predicted the outcome of three big games, but he also bet against Lisa's picks in the Gracie Films' notoriously competitive office pool and lost.

7. A real life version of The Simpsons' home was built in Nevada

Fox and Pepsi got together to offer the ultimate collectible for 'Simpsons' fans: a real world replica of the family's colorful home in a subdivision in Henderson, Nevada, just outside Las Vegas. The winner, however, opted to take the cash prize instead of the home and the eerily accurate house became a tourist stop for 'Simpsons' fans. The four bedroom, two-bath home stayed in its traditional TV colors until 2001 when the subdivision started to fill with other residents. The developers had it repainted to fit the neighborhood's scheme and stripped it of all of its 'Simpsons'-esque props and furnishings. Today, it looks just like any other home on the block but it does retain one 'Simpsons' reference: it's located in the Springfield subdivision.

8. 'Simpsons' toys are illegal in Iran

The Simpsons have always faced some form of controversy since their skyrocketing popularity turned them into a ratings and merchandising juggernaut. Iran, however, has taken a rather extreme method of addressing their concerns over the show's sarcastic, counterculture attitudes. The nation's Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults recently issued an edict that forbade the sale of any Simpsons toys in any Iranian store. The nation banned the toys for their ability to promote Western culture and the "destructive cultural and social consequences" they supposedly promote. Iran has also placed Barbie dolls on the same list, opting instead for a line of dolls that promote more traditional Iranian, state-approved styles of dressing. Al Jean responded to the ban by telling the Los Angeles Times, "This means war."

9. Several of the show's characters are based on real people

Some of the show's more iconic characters might seem like figments of some very talented imaginations, but they actually come from some real people. The gruff, gravelly-voiced Moe Szyslak is based on the similarly gruff, gravelly-voiced comedian Rich Hall who used to work with 'Simpsons' writer George Meyer on the '80s comedy series 'Not Necessarily the News.' Waylon Smithers, Mr. Burns' overly devoted assistant, is actually based on 'Simpsons' associate producer Richard Sakai, though reportedly somewhat out of spite. According to 'The Simpsons Uncensored,' Sakai started on the show as an assistant for Brooks. Estin claims in the book that everyone liked Sakai, but noted he was seen as a guy who was fiercely loyal to Brooks so the writers modeled his behavior around the office for Smithers' devotion to Burns.

10. "D'oh!" is a real word in the Oxford English Dictionary...but not in 'Simpsons' scripts

'The Simpsons' have infiltrated just about every aspect of modern culture, but perhaps it's most impressive in its ability to worm its way into our language. The Oxford English Dictionary announced in 2001 that Homer's most frequent utterance, "D'oh!," would earn a spot in its dictionary along with several other pop-culture phrases and words. The OED defines it as "Expressing frustration at the realization that things have turned out badly or not as planned, or that one has just said or done something foolish." However, when it first appeared in a 'Simpsons' script, the phrase was written as "annoyed grunt." Dan Castellaneta came up with the signature catchphrase, which he claims to have borrowed from 'Laurel and Hardy' star Jimmy Finlayson who would utter "D'oooooh" in a state of frustration. Groening had him shorten it since the early shorts were only a minute long and "D'oh!" was easier to animate.

Bumblebee Gets Retro Look in ‘Transformers 4′

Optimus Prime may be the leader of the Transformers but the heart and soul has always been Bumblebee. In the Michael Bay films, that was in large part due to his relationship with Sam Witwicky, played by Shia LaBeouf. In Transformers 4 however, Sam is no longer part of the story and it seems Bumblebee has taken the break-up to heart, reverting to a more retro look as a modified 1967 Camaro. Check it out below.

Why do you think Bumblebee changed his look from the modern Camaro? Does it have to do with the race car subplot in the film?

5 Worst Superhero Movies

Catwoman (2004)

1. Catwoman (2004)

Catwoman was laughably bad. It received a 9% rating at Rotten Tomato and was listed as one of the worst films made across lists. The movie won 4 Razzies, which Halle Berry accepted in person, even acknowledging that she was cast in "in a piece of s***, god-awful movie". The only thing that made it possibly bearable was seeing Halle Berry in a seductive cat-inspired suit. Maybe.

Fantastic 4 (2005)

2. Fantastic 4 (2005)

This movie could have been great. Or at least decent. With massive hype and box office successes, this movie still wasn't what it could've been. Jessica Alba, as Sue Storm, was nominated for a Worst Actress Razzie. Critics were underwhelmed, at best. Fantastic 4 lacked the true spirit of the heros, making it more lame than actually fantastic.

Daredevil (2003)

3. Daredevil (2003)

This movie had mixed reviews from critics. Described as "watchable". So, overall, Daredevil seemed to be not a particularly memorable experience. Though less of a heavyweight superhero than Superman or Hulk, Daredevil could have been catapulted to greater heights.

Elektra (2005)

4. Elektra (2005)

With a solid 10% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Elektra was also staunchly awful. Only Jennifer Gardner's red bustier-corset hybrid was notable. A video game related to the movie was intended to be released but never was due the publishers' belief that it would not be popular enough. They were certainly right.

Green Lantern (2011)

5. Green Lantern (2011)

The Green Lantern was entirely underwhelming. Flashy effects still render this movie average, at absolute best. Industry analysts also said it underperformed and needed to make at least twice what its worldwide total was to be considered even financially solid. Also, Ryan Reynold's mask was silly.

5 Questions You May Have About Avengers: Age of Ultron

Question #1: Who is Ultron?

ageofultron 01 536x360 5 Questions You May Have About Avengers: Age of Ultron
Basically, Ultron is a highly sophisticated robot. He first appeared in The Avengers #55 published in August 1968, leading the Masters of Evil in an attack on the team using Jarvis, the Avengers’ butler and confidant, as his pawn. In flashbacks we see how Ultron was created as an artificial intelligence by one of The Avengers (more on that later) using their own brain pattern as a template, but as Ultron developed, he evolved his own goals and ideals, and decided that they didn’t align with either his “father’s” or his comrades in The Avengers.
But Ultron, despite being destroyed at the end of nearly every confrontation with the team, often returns stronger, smarter, and more evolved, as well as more blood thirsty in his desire to destroy The Avengers and their legacy. Other than Loki and the Masters of Evil, Ultron is probably The Avengers’ most powerful, and most bothersome, nemesis.

Question #2: What About Thanos?

thanos reportedly confirmed for avengers 2 and guardians of the galaxy 539x360 5 Questions You May Have About Avengers: Age of Ultron
Thanos, in case you didn’t know, was the big purple guy we saw in the first bonus scene at the end of The Avengers. He was the guy that taught Loki the secrets of the Tesseract, and sent the Chitauri to conquer the Earth. It was presumed that Marvel was setting up Thanos as the antagonist in the next Avengers film, a presumption helped along by the Easter egg appearance of Thanos’ ultimate weapon, the Infinity Gauntlet, as one of the trinkets in Odin’s treasure room in Thor.
And while Guardians of the Galaxy is at least going to circle “the Mad Titan” with a number of the characters having an either overt or implied connection to Thanos, it now seems that Thanos himself is being saved for an epic conclusion in The Avengers 3.

Question #3: What’s the meaning of the subtitle: “Age of Ultron?”

Ultron 577x360 5 Questions You May Have About Avengers: Age of Ultron
The title Age of Ultron comes from an actual storyline and miniseries featuring the villain that Marvel Comics released earlier this year. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has already thrown some cold water on the idea that the comic book miniseries and the plotline of Avengers: Age of Ultron will have much in common, mostly because the Age of Ultron featured a lot of characters that Marvel Studios and Disney don’t have the rights to use on film, specifically Wolverine and the Fantastic Four’s Invisible Woman.
The plot is interesting though, with the heroes of the Marvel Universe forced into an underground resistance after a new, super-advanced Ultron takes over the world. Time travel eventually comes into play, with Wolverine going back in time to kill Ultron’s creator, but complications abound and the story becomes rather convoluted even for the above average comic book fan. For those reasons, it’s doubtful that the movie will be a faithful adaptation of the comic book, but given Whedon’s predilection for challenging his heroes to the point of defeat and death, to confront The Avengers with a villain for whom defeat means evolving into a better bad guy seems like the perfect fit.

Question #4: Does the choice of Ultron as villain indicate that one Avenger in particular will join the team?

ant man 5 Questions You May Have About Avengers: Age of Ultron
We will now address the topic of Ultron’s creator because, yes, as a robot, Ultron was created by a scientist named Henry Pym. Recognize the name? If not, how about his superhero alter ego Ant-Man? For years, director Edgar Wright has endeavoured – struggled even – to bring Ant-Man to life on the big screen. Progress has been slow, but now Ant-Man is expected to begin production sometime early next year with a November 2015 release date currently pencilled in on the calendar, a mere six months after the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Does that mean that Ant-Man will appear in someway in the Avengers sequel before being spun-off into his own film? It would be kind of odd to have Ultron without Pym, just as it would be peculiar to show the formation of the X-Men without Charles Xavier. And what about Vision, another robot created by Pym who’s been rumored to play a part in the Avengers sequel and possibly played by Vin Diesel, who reportedly has a mysterious role in an upcoming Marvel film? Regardless, Pym may become the first Avenger to join the team before spinning off into his own solo adventure.
Then again, Whedon has played down the speculation, saying that Pym won’t be involved. Still, who knows if he’s telling the truth and who knows what will change between now and the film’s release. It would make sense for Pym to appear but at the same time, Whedon can probably find a way to tell Ultron’s story without him.

Question #5: What other Avengers might join “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?”

k bigpic2 5 Questions You May Have About Avengers: Age of Ultron
The first movie gave us a core team of six – Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye – but in the comics, The Avengers are made up of dozens of heroes, active and reserve, and spread across several teams from the New, the Mighty, the Secret, the Young, and even occasionally the West Coast. But if Pym/Ant Man ends up joining the team, who else might we expect?
Maybe The Falcon? The character is already being introduced in the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier and will be played by Anthony Mackie. Whedon himself talked about mutant twins Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch playing a big role in the film, even though Bryan Singer is also using Quicksilver in his X-Men: Days of Future Past. Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been talked about for the fast moving Quicksilver while Saoirse Ronan has been suggested for the magical Scarlet Witch.
That’s about four contenders right there, and though Ultron is a powerful adversary, we know that screen time can be cruel as well as kind when we’re talking about a superhero team movie (ask any X-Men member not named Jackman). Still, there’s a strong case to be made for Ms. Marvel, Spider-Woman, Wonder Man, Vision, Swordsman, Namor, Mockingbird, Tigra, She-Hulk etc.

So there you have it. Hopefully that clears up some of your questions about Ultron and what direction Marvel may be taking Avengers: Age of Ultron in. If you’re still confused, or wondering about anything else, feel free to head down to the comments and let us know what you’re thinking.

Marc Webb Says ‘Amazing Spider-Man 4′ Might Be More Than a ‘Spider-Man’ Movie

amazing spider man 2 images Marc Webb Says Amazing Spider Man 4 Might Be More Than a Spider Man Movie
This past weekend at Comic-Con 2013, director Marc Webb sat down with Screen Rant to talk about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3. In our interview, Webb discussed some of the themes of the movie, as well as the abundance of villains in the film (and how they might extend into further sequels).
This second point is one that Webb has been talking about a lot lately, as some fans have openly worried that the sequel will suffer the same flaws as Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.
In a different interview with Crave Online, Webb addressed the number of characters in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and explained how some of their cameo appearances that will set-up a bigger story for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 (and perhaps even The Amazing Spider-Man 4).
Marc Webb Says Amazing Spider Man 4 Might Be More Than a Spider Man Movie
Reiterating some of what Webb told us, the director said that Rhino is just a minor character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2:
“I think the main obstacle, the main villain of this film is Electro. He is our primary focus and it’s somebody that has extraordinary, antagonist potential. The other thing is, it was sort of fun to tease out little bits and pieces and have references, for people who are hardcore fans and Rhino, I think, is a better example of that.
“Listen, it’s not the whole storyline. It’s not deeply integrated into the plot. He’s not distracting, I think he’s really elemental and fun to play around with and incredibly justified but it also allows, I think, hardcore fans a chance to see what we do with him, with that character in a way that has enough nuance to feel real but doesn’t distract from the film.”
As we’ve discussed in previous articles, Rhino isn’t the only character Webb plans to introduce for the series. Felicity Jones will possibly appear as Black Cat, Dane DeHaan could appear as some version of the Green Goblin or Venom, and Shailene Woodley might even eventually appear as Mary Jane Watson.
But Webb isn’t stopping there. For The Amazing Spider-Man 4, he plans to introduce even more characters and build out the universe even further – possibly even other heroes:
“I think [for] the fourth movie, what we’ve discovered is there are so many ancillary characters, that have enormous, cinematic potential that there may be other ways to exploit those characters, in a way that is exciting and fun and worthwhile. It might not just be a ‘Spider-Man’ movie.
“You know, what was fun about the comics is that there’s an entire sort of encyclopedia of characters and stories and histories and nuances and idiosyncrasies and off-shoots. I think that that is something that seems to be really successful and has a lot of potential so it’s sort of, as yet, undefined, but intentionally so.”
It makes sense why Webb and Sony would want to explore as much of the Spider-Man world as possible by bringing in new characters. Of all Marvel’s flagship characters, Spider-Man has one of the richest histories and there’s plenty of great stories to mine for material.
Spider Man versus All His Villains Marc Webb Says Amazing Spider Man 4 Might Be More Than a Spider Man Movie
That being said, there are always risks to introducing characters and not paying them off. Will Rhino work as a minor villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2? Probably. Will his appearance successfully tee up a larger story (possibly involving the Sinister Six)? Maybe not.
As much as The Avengers demonstrated that audiences are willing to watch a movie with lots of characters, there was a lot of deliberate build-up to that film. Will non-fanboy audiences be able to make clear connections between all of the Spider-Man villains from one film to the next, especially if they’re as cryptic as The Gentleman (which was another possibility Webb talked about with Crave)?
In any case, there’s plenty of time to debate Webb’s big plans until Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s release date. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Jose Padilha’s Robocop Reboot Is Officially Going For A PG-13 Rating; My Anticipation For The Film Is Officially Going For A Brand New Low

Oh yes, another news piece I can file under “not surprised, but still super disappointed.”  At this point in time, I can’t say I’m quite looking forward to the Robocop Reboot—well Jose Padilha isn’t a bad choice at all to direct, production woes and some very negative first reactions to the script have left me cold on the project.  And now, we have another thing to worry about when it comes to the new Robocop—as revealed at Comic Con a few days ago, this Robocop will most likely have a PG-13 rating.  Why is that such a travesty?  Well I shall tell you…after the break.
Even though I really enjoyed the first Robocop, I’m not one of the film’s many, many lovers—that said, one of its strongest aspects is the film’s use of violence.  Used both to hammer down the film’s main point and as satirical farce, the original Robocop used blood and gore quite well to establish its tongue in cheek tone.  But from the sounds of it, the new film won’t going for the same angle at all—which pretty much puts the whole Robocop name in peril.  From director Jose Padilha, see him bullshit his way into making this sound like a good thing:
“We were shooting the movie to be seen by the broadest possible audience, which means PG-13. This whole idea about ‘RoboCop’ has to be “R” because the first one was amazingly violent… I never really bought into that. You know, ‘The Dark Knight’ was PG-13, so you can get away with a lot.”
Robocop Motorcycle Jose Padilhas Robocop Reboot Is Officially Going For A PG 13 Rating; My Anticipation For The Film Is Officially Going For A Brand New Low
Seriously, does anyone REALLY believe the man who directed Elite Squad was totally fine with a PG-13 rating?  He certainly wanted to make it R, I have no doubt about that.  But then Sony reared their ugly head like they so often have, and now we’re going to get this PG-13 lame version.  You can try to make this sound like a good thing by comparing it to The Dark Knight Padilha, but no one in their right mind is going to believe you.  Man, I miss when Darren Aronofsky was behind this project…you know we would have gotten a kick-ass R rated version then.  But instead, we’re probably going to get something like Terminator Salvation—oh joy.
Starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel, and many others, Robocop will hit theaters on February 12, 2014.  I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

Earlier today, a four-minute licensing featurette popped up online for Jose Padilha‘s upcoming RoboCop remake. The video, which was created to help sell the film to merchandisers, featured a variety of concept art from the film as well as interviews with Padilha, star Joel Kinnaman, and VFX  Supervisor Jamie Price.
Naturally, since the video was not meant for mainstream audiences, it was promptly taken down, but not before several websites snapped stills of the video featuring the concept art. The images, which contain minor spoilers, reveal multiple iterations of the new RoboCop armor, several action scenes from the film (including what looks like an army of RoboCops), and another look at the new version of the ED-209.
Check out some of the key concept art from the video below:

[PICTURES REMOVED AT STUDIO REQUEST]

Before the video was taken down, our friends at Collider wrote down some of the key points from the video. Check out their report for the full details, but there was one point that we wanted to share:
Since OmniCorp is a business, RoboCop will show the R&D process of the RoboCop models, with the first version being similar to the original suit and the newer version being the sleek black one seen in recent images.
RoboCop’s black armor has been a point of contention in the fanboy community for months now, ever since the first image of the radically different suit appeared online. The assumption then was that the suit was likely an early version that would evolve to become the more recognizable silver version by the end of the movie. This assumption seemed to be confirmed with the recently revealed set photo of the silver ‘combat mode’ suit. If the licensing video is accurate, however, it would seem that the silver suit comes first.
What do you think of the black armor being the final RoboCop armor in the film? Do you like the look of the new ED-209?
The RoboCop remake is expected to hit theaters February 7th, 2014.

Captain America The Winter Soldier
Following in the footsteps of the record-breaking Marvel Studios’ release, “Marvel’s The Avengers,” production on the highly anticipated release, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” has commenced in Los Angeles, Calif., with production also including locations in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington D.C. Directing the film is the team of Anthony and Joe Russo (“Welcome to Collinwood”) from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) & Stephen McFeely (“Captain America: The First Avenger”). Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” returns Chris Evans (“Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel’s The Avengers”) as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America, along with Scarlett Johansson (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 2”) as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 2”) as Nick Fury. In addition, film icon Robert Redford has joined the all-star cast as Agent Alexander Pierce, a senior leader within the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release in the U.S. on April 4, 2014.
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.
Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” features an outstanding supporting cast that includes Sebastian Stan (“Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Black Swan”) as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie (“The Hurt Locker,” “Million Dollar Baby”) as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Cobie Smulders (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “How I Met Your Mother”) as Agent Maria Hill, Frank Grillo (“Zero Dark Thirty”) as Brock Rumlow and Georges St-Pierre (“Death Warrior”) as Georges Batroc. Rounding out the talented cast are Hayley Atwell (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Peggy Carter, Toby Jones (“Captain America: The First Avenger,” “The Hunger Games”) as Arnim Zola, Emily VanCamp (“The Ring 2,” “Revenge”) as Agent 13 and Maximiliano Hernández (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Thor”) as Agent Jasper Sitwell.
Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch (“Elysium,” “District 9”), production designer Peter Wenham (“21 Jump Street,” “Fast Five”), editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. (“Star Wars: Episode 7,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”) and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky (“The Hunger Games,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”)
Marvel Studios’ upcoming release schedule includes “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013, and “Thor: The Dark World” on November 8, 2013. The studio most recently produced the critically acclaimed “Marvel’s The Avengers,” which set the all-time, domestic 3-day weekend box office record at $207.4 million. The film, which shattered both domestic and international box office records, is Disney’s highest-grossing global and domestic release of all time and marks the studio’s fifth film to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.
In the summer of 2011, Marvel successfully launched two new franchises with “Thor,” starring Chris Hemsworth, and “Captain America: The First Avenger,” starring Chris Evans. Both films opened #1 at the box office and have grossed over $800 million worldwide combined. In 2010 “Iron Man 2,” starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury took the #1 spot in its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million.
In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk.”  “Iron Man,” in which Robert Downey Jr. originally dons the Super Hero’s powerful armor and stars alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Shaun Toub and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008, and was an immediate box office success. Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million in its opening weekend.  On June 13, 2008, Marvel released “The Incredible Hulk,” marking its second number one opener of that summer.

First Look: Two New Autobots In ‘Transformers 4;’ Plus T.J. Miller Joins The Cast

transformers-4-logo
Michael Bay‘s Transformers 4 has just started production and two of the brand new Autobots have been revealed. One is a 1200-horsepower Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse (price tag, over $2 million) and another is a C7 Corvette Stingray. There’s no word on which characters they’ll transform into, but you can check them out on set below.
Also, comedian T.J. Miller has been cast as Mark Wahlberg‘s best friend in the film.
The car photos come from Yahoo, which reports that filming is currently taking place on the border between Arizona and Utah.
Any clues as to what those colors could signify in regards to Transformers characters?
As for T.J. Miller, The Hollywood Reporter says he’ll play a mechanic in the film alongside Wahlberg. You probably know him either as the camera man in Cloverfield, from his supporting work in Our Idiot Brother, She’s Out Of Your League or the voice of Tuffnut in How To Train Your Dragon. He’s currently shooting the comedy Search Party for Universal.
Miller joins not only Wahlberg, but Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer and Sophia Miles in the film which is set for release June 27, 2014.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Theory: Villain's New Origin Could be a Result of Tony Stark

Avengers: Age of Ultron will not follow the comic book story arc of the same name per writer/director Joss Whedon. In fact, he said this is "....Marvel cinema not Marvel comics" in an interview with Marvel.com.

“We’re doing our own version of the origin story for Ultron. In the origin story, there was Hank Pym, so a lot of people assumed that he will be in the mix. He’s not. We’re basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use. A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside.”

In the comic universe, Dr. Hank Pym (Ant-Man) creates Ultron, who then turns on his creator.

“We’re crafting our own version of it where his origin comes more directly from The Avengers we already know about. It’s a little bit darker than the other film because Ultron is in the house. There’s a science fiction theme that wasn’t there in the other one. Ultron is definitely something that evolves, so we’re going to get together a couple of different iterations. Nothing can be translated exactly as it was from the comics; particularly Ultron.”

So what does this all mean? Let's speculate on one theory.

As Whedon said Ultron will become the creation based on what fans already know from the current Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since this is the case it has to be assumed that Ultron is an advanced development from Tony Stark's JARVIS technology.

As seen in Iron Man 3, Stark has created an army of Iron Man suits and JARVIS controls them. Perhaps JARVIS loses control and becomes sentient and then becomes Ultron. Already knowing how to control multiple Iron Man suits at the same time, this sounds like a set-up for Ultron, who also builds many versions of himself and an Ultron army of his own in the comics.

Maybe JARVIS completely changes into Ultron or maybe SHIELD tries to replicate Stark tech and it goes bad. Many more theories along this path if you sit and consider them.

This theory would make Stark the central point of Avengers: Age of Ultron and with actor Robert Downey Jr. already signed on for the next two Avengers films it is assumed his paydays are huge. Plus, he is the face of Marvel's movie franchise and it just makes sense to feature the actor in both the sequel and threequel before his contract expires.

2011: A Year In Movie Mistakes

Most movie fans watch movies hoping for the best. We don’t want to see something bad, we want to be transported to another place and entertained for two hours so, even with a bad movie, we’ll try to find something good in it. On the flip side, if you watch a movie looking for the negative, you’re going to find it.
The gang who frequent MovieMistakes.com do just that. They watch movies and look for mistakes. Mistakes in the costumes, editing, production design, basically anything in the mise en scene that a director or editor missed. They then file those in an impressive database and with 2011 coming to a close, they’ve posted their Best Of lists.
Check out The Best Movie Mistakes of 2011 and The Most Mistakes in a 2011 Movie after the jump.
Both of these lists are from MovieMistakes.com, a site that can literally kills hours of your time. We’re only posting the top ten of each list.
Here are the ten Best Movie Mistakes of 2011, as voted on by the site’s readers.

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 – Why is there snow in Hogsmeade when the trio gets there and meets Aberforth? Hogsmeade and Hogwarts are within walking distance of each other, yet there is no snow at Hogwarts.

2. X-Men: First Class – In First Class, Professor X is made handicapped in 1962 at the end of the movie. In the previous X-men movie, he was walking when he visited the girl (Jean) in the mid 70s with Magneto.

3. Transformers: Dark of the Moon – In the first scene with Carly coming up the stairs she is wearing a white cap, when the camera changes to the front view and she is holding the stuffed rabbit the cap is gone.

4. The Green Hornet – When Reid and Kato are fighting by the pool, the beach ball falls off the chair (beside the pool) when they land in the water, but is back up on the chair in a following shot.

5. Source Code – This scene is repeated multiple times in the movie: usually when the main character enters the “source code” the scene begins by panning over a small pond showing a Canadian goose taking flight. However the sound editor makes the mistake of dubbing in a recording of a hen mallard duck.

6. Fast Five – The gang steal four brand new Police spec 2011 Dodge Chargers. When Brian and Dom yank the safe out, the Chargers they’re driving are older spec, with the old tail lights. Han and Roman are seen driving the other, new Chargers later in that chase.

7. The Hangover Part 2 - Bradley Cooper calls Stu “Ed” when they are fleeing from Russians with the monkey.

8. Scream 4 – In the final shot of the film, Jill’s head moves slightly when she’s supposed to be dead.

9. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – Captain Barbossa’s ship has a modern Union Jack flying on the stern. The film is set in the reign of George II (1727 – 1760). The flag shown includes the cross of St Patrick, although Ireland did not become part of the United Kingdom until 1801, and the Union Jack at the time of the film would have comprised only the crosses of St George (England) and St Andrew (Scotland).

10. Thor – When the Destroyer arrives amidst the Shield agents, a coffee cup sitting on the dash of one of the vehicles spills over. The next shot it can be seen lying on its side. The reverse angle shot then shows it upright again.

Update: Read 2012: A Year in Movie Mistakes

You can read the next 19 on their site.
And here are the movies with the most mistakes recorded on the site in 2011.
  1. Transformers: Dark of the Moon – 58 mistakes
  2. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - 52 mistakes
  3. X-Men: First Class – 30 mistakes
  4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 – 20 mistakes
  5. Super 8 – 17 mistakes
  6. Captain America: The First Avenger – 16 mistakes
  7. Paul – 14 mistakes
  8. Scream 4 – 11 mistakes
  9. The Hangover Part 2 – 11 mistakes
  10. The Mechanic – 10 mistakes
There are 70 more on the site.
The one disclaimer about these, of course, is that a lot of the site is user generated so films that people see more of and obsess over are sure to be scrutinized more. Hence a movie like Transformers being on both lists. I’m sure The Artist has a lot of mistakes in it too but the average fanboy isn’t obsessively watching a film like that.
Do you watch movies and pick these kind of things out?
